The Indian elephant is the state animal of Kerala. Periyar Tiger Reserve has thousands of elephants, but in Kerala elephants are also found in temples and as working elephants. Additionally, in the Periyar area there is Elephant Junction; a project that has the purpose of providing tourists with information about elephants and a chance to experience various close encounters with elephants.  Elephant safari helps the visitor to travel through such difficult terrains where even jeeps cannot venture. And why not, riding an elephant takes you back to the royal era, when only the kings use to ride on these majestic beasts, since nothing can even compare with the majesty of the Pachyderm. The elephant moves slowly and steadily, that’s why this type of safari is ideal in and around the wild regions or within the vicinity of the wildlife sanctuaries, where riding the elephant can give you an easy excess for viewing the wildlif. This riding is will give a unique experience to you. During the time of riding the elephant walks slowly and smoothly. For riding , a seating arrangement is done on the back of elephant .that is comfortable seats are temporarily fitted on elephant . the kerala wild life sanctuaries offers the facility for elephant riding. When you are riding elephant you can easly viewing the wild life . on the way of riding you can see the wild elephants bathing in the water ponds. The photographers can take excellent pictures from the top of the elephant. Some tips are remembers  before start elephant riding . first up all select the best time , that choose suitable weather conditions. During hot climate , collect enough water for drinking. And select comfortable dresses . in order to protect your head always wear a helmet when you are going an elephant ride.
